The usual Monday cloud covering—will it or won’t it rain? Double revenue points, holidaymakers, traffic jams. On past performances—well…
To top it off, it was a public holiday—something about Labour, whatever that is. Life is hard.
Will anybody turn up under those conditions? I didn’t allow for the member of Ulysses—the toughest in the shire.
Riding in were Lassi, Russel, Maestro, John Mac, 3-Wheel Dave, Whispers, and visitor Sam, who thought he’d give Ulysses a try on his new Kawasaki Vulcan S 650. Cool-looking gear.
We decided it would be a good idea to be back by lunch to beat the traffic build-up at Heathcote. So, Maccas at Albion Park—which would be open on a public holiday—was the go.
Entering the National Park at the Farnell Ave entrance, we came to a stop just past the toll gate. The mobile traffic lights were red. The road had collapsed down the hill and was being shored up by the council. Lined up were about a dozen cars, ready for their picnic day at Garie and Wattamolla.
A slow ride through the park was envisaged—but probably a sensible idea on double points day.
Passed Bald Hill, which was crowded out with bikes, and along the coast road to Bulli, up to the pass, to the highway, and on to Albion Park. More traffic than I expected.
Quick service at Maccas and info about Sam, who is still working full-time. Journey back was via the highway to Heathcote—goodbyes and home before the traffic build-up.
Thanks, guys, for the company.
Cheers, John “Whispers” Warren
