Five riders clutched out (love that turn of phrase) at 8.00am at Loftus Oval for another relaxing Monday ride. Whispers, Perry, Slim Jim, Andy and I indulged in a bit of groupthink and decided on coffee at Cordeaux Heights, by way of Mt. Kembla. I led the way south, and eventually onto Harry Graham Drive. What used to be a pot-holed, landslide-prone and often-closed route is now quite a nice, if narrow, little road. At the bottom of the mountain Slim Jim took the lead, as he knew the way to the Cordeaux Caffeine café.

The coffee and food there were excellent, even if the service was a tad slow. Then again, this didn’t matter as we’re never in a hurry on a Monday ride. After an hour or so chewing the fat and shooting the breeze, Slim Jim led us home via Mt Keira. Once back on the main highway the pace became a bit more spirited as per usual on the run home.

Goodbyes at Heathcote and we were home by 11.30.

For those who haven’t been on one, these Monday rides are what we used to do on our ad hoc Tuesday morning coffee rides nearly 20 years ago. While the Tuesdays have morphed into often day-long jaunts set at a far livelier pace, the Mondays remain more sedate, with the emphasis on the social. But whether you see yourself as a nearly-finished cruising biker or a still-got-it boy racer, all are welcome on Mondays!
