9th Mar 2024: The Five Ferries Ride

Today was to be Steve Snee’s five ferries ride but unfortunately, due to family commitments he couldn’t make it so I said I would lead the ride for him.

Even before we headed off there was something against us as the ferry at Lower Portland was out of action so we wouldn’t be able to complete the five ferries, we could have five ferry rides by doubling up on one but so be it. At the start time, we had only three riders, Drew, Dutchy and me so we headed off to our morning tea stop at MacDonalds Cranebrook.
We rode along Heathcote Road and onto Camden Valley Way, then Bringelly Road where we took Greendale Road into Wallacia then Mulgoa and finally passed through Penrith and into Cranebrook.

At morning tea, the weather was hotting up and the forecast was for a hot day, so we decided to head back and keep the option of the five ferries ride open for another day. We travelled back through Penrith and Mulgoa and at Wallacia we turned onto Silverdale Road. We passed through Silverdale and Werombi and The Oaks. From here we turned onto Barkers Lodge Road for a lovely ride into Picton and over Razorback and Douglas Park. Once through Broughton Pass it was into Appin and back home via the OPH.

We didn’t get to do the original ride but that will wait for another day. We did have a very enjoyable ride of over 250ks, and we got home before it became too hot to ride.
Thanks to Drew and Dutchy for their company.

Catch you on a ride soon. Cheers.
