Six hardy riders headed out from Heathcote, with the weather looking decidedly precarious. Everyone rugged up in their best wet weather and winter gear for a run down the south coast to Greenwell Point, well that’s not exactly correct. The original destination was Shoalhaven Heads but it changed along with the weather and The Colonels ride leading. There were 4 BMW’s, (The Colonel, Robbo, Shrek and Tunnels) Rambo on The Bus and Brett (Chopper) on his Triumph. So down the OPH, Princes Hwy, Picton Rd, Mt Kiera, back on to the hwy, off at Fox Ground, Broughton Village, and into Berry where we stopped for a coffee at the Old Creamery. Back on the bikes and headed off cross country along Coolangatta Rd, but I can assure you it didn’t remind me of Coolangatta at all, except the COOL part. Then along the river back to Nowra, crossed over, and headed east back to the coast.

Arrived at Greenwell Point and presented ourselves at the Pelican Rocks Seafood Restaurant. The place was booked solid but the owner found a table for 4 that immediately became a table for 6. Meals were excellent, fast in coming and served beautifully. Everyone around us had ballons attached to their tables announcing Happy Birthdays, 50th Anniversary’s, and Happy Retirements. Perhaps Mister Quartermaster we can get some ballons announcing the St George Sutho Branch?

The ride home started in a light sprinkle of rain, and for everyone’s pleasure it was straight back up the hwy. I was TEC and had to stop near Kiama to unfog my sunglasses, which were necessary because of the sun coming out occasionally and the glare it created. I never saw the group again but I’m reliably informed that they did stop at Heathcote and waited for me but I must have missed them by mere minutes. All round, it was actually a very nice ride, with a couple of sun showers. It could have been a lot worse as the skies were black all around us for most of the ride. And remember, don’t be afraid to take a wet weather ride on purpose, if just to maintain your skills in those conditions.
