Sunny morning with gusty winds predicted later in the day. Should be no problem to nine hardy riders who are prepared to get out of bed for an 8.00 start. Ride, breakfast and return by lunchtime should offer no problem.
With the predicted gale force winds. Our starters were Drew, Martin, Russel, Bob, Andy, Ron, Alan, Gordon and Whispers.
The sun offered us a warm comfortable ride to Kiama. K G Café is a pleasant spot in the main drag where we have been before where the manager re-arranged the table to accommodate us.
Scrambled eggs, bacon and egg rolls, raisin toast, coffee and hot chocolate were devoured.
Return ride was via the highway as Jamberoo and National park were rejected because of the branches and leaves on the road.
Leaving Kiama we discovered we had had been caught out by the winds which weren’t expected till later in the day.
They were the most savage winds I have encountered and we had our doubts about being able to retain control of the bikes.
Going across the open plains the wind bought our speed down to about 40 klms, quite scary.
When we reached the start of the 80 zone at the beginning of the old highway coming around the bend we were blocked by 3 police cars
Closing the high way because of a bushfire on Maddens Plains and we were directed to Appin Rd where we continued to Appin then turned right towards Campbell town
Left at Therry Rd Through Blair Athol and onto the Hume Hwy back through Liverpool where some of our crew continued down M5 and we turned off at Heathcote Rd saying goodbyes at New Illawarra rd.
Then home a bit later an expected but that’s part of the adventure.
Cheers John Warren [Whispers]
